It has been widely speculated that the world as we know it will end in 2012, specifically on December 21. The reason for this worldwide belief of the end of the world comes from the Mayan civilizations 2012 calendar. The calendar officially ends on the date of December 21, 2012, even though it was written in 3114 BC. The question is have the Mayans themselves been able to predict the end of the world as we know it, or is it just a case of an unfinished calendar. Mayan astrologers are known for their highly targeted accuracy when it comes to predictions. Over the last 5000 years their astrologists were able to predict such things as solstices, lunar and solar eclipses, and all of the equinoxes without fail. Is the 2012 prediction going to be their first failed one?
Are the 2012 predictions based solely on the Mayan calendar?
What they do know at this time is that a rare astronomical occurrence will happen where the sun will align with the Milky Way, and that the last time this happened was 26,000 years before. Some people have the notion that this rare occurrence will bring about a radical change on Earth whether it be political or environmental, and even some that believe it will take us to a very dangerous time. It isn’t just the Mayan people that have expressed concerns over what this year represents or the potential trouble that’s on the horizon, Egyptian and Indian ( vedic) astrologers, as well as other groups have foretold that even if the world does not end in 2012 it will be a time of great change.
The question is, are the current trends in the world foreshadowing what is to come. The downfall or toppling of corrupt governments around the world, global warming and the effect on our ozone layer, even what is shaping up to be a nuclear arms race amongst many countries around the world. Is this a time of great change, or yet another moment where prediction of the end of the world has come and gone.
On a trip to Mexico in 2010 I was lucky to have been able to have an excursion to an actual Mayan village. It is at this village that I asked my tour guide what exactly the Mayan belief was to the end of the world. When the question was asked he looked at me and said that he had no worries whatsoever.
without a doubt the 2012 predictions or 2012 prophecy will be interesting to watch unfold across the globe.
